This is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants. The staff are very nice and quick to get orders out. The food is excellent and has great portion sizes. You won’t leave hungry.

This place is a hidden Gem!! I actually was one of the fisrst servers hired there over 30 years ago!! This place has been around forever ..and there is a reason for that,,,IT ROCKS!

The inside is super warm and cozy. The menu is extensive and the food it hot and full of flavor. I now live in L.A and have eaten at many chinese restaurants but nothing compares to the BAMBOO HOUSE! Whenever I’m in Escondido it’s always my very first stop!!

On the way to San Diego on the 15 Fwy, we went less then 5 miles off the freeway to what seemed like the middle of nowhere. It turned out to be a charming Chinese restaurant with lanterns, birdcages, and other decor adorning booths and tables laid out nicely.

We loved the free fried chow mein noodle appetizer (tasted homemade, not canned) with ketchup sauce and  hot mustard on the side.

We enjoyed the shrimp with snow peas. moo goo gai pan (chicken with mushrooms and vegetables), and eggplant with black mushrooms. If you like spicy, their chili oil sauce brought to the table is complex with heat and a bit of sweetness. We also ordered hot tea to wash it down, which tasted like oolong and hit the spot.

Restaurant was clean. They have HEPA filters circulating the air and all staff are masked. Tableware is metal forks and spoons (reusable). Water is iced by default.

There is ample parking. Restrooms are toward the back near the Exit sign.

It’s worth a detour off the beaten path.

Wow is an understatement! This place blew my mind. The portions are gigantic and packed with flavor. I had the kung pao chicken and it was a 10/10. The service was a 10/10. Price was beyond reasonable too. Such a hidden gem in Escondido.

The outside is deceptively plain and gives away no idea about what’s inside.  This is a hidden surprise, both for interior decoration as well as the depth of the menu.  It can be overwhelming.  We both ordered Egg Fu Yung expecting the usual “one giant patty” that you get at most restaurants.  Instead of several small ones or one giant one, we got several giant patties.  It was like a stack of pancakes, but Egg Fu Yung.  Not only was it the best I’ve had in about 20 years, it lasted us for three meals.  Pretty much the whole weekend was finishing leftovers from one meal at Bamboo House.  I will definitely return.

Sadly things have changed a lot since they changed ownership. We knew the day would come when the owner would retire, but were hoping the new owner would maintain the legacy of great food.

They quality has gone down significantly. Our favorite soup has completely changed.  The best part was the homemade broth, but now it’s clearly canned or boxed.  The aromatic shrimp used to be big and flavorful, now they’re small and lacking.  So sad after being a customer for over 30 years. 🙁
