We love South China. Always reliable and delicious. Love that you can find Malaysian food on their menu.
Fresh vegetables, lunch specials, and delightful staff. It’s easy to see why people love this Mt V avenue favorite.
The food is delicious, I have a new favorite place
Ordered delivery while staying at The Embassy Suites in old town. Food was very good, fast delivery and at an excellent price. We enjoyed the Mongolian Beef and egg drop soup. Wish there was a Chinese restaurant like this in my town.
I was looking forward to dining there after the pandemic shut-downs, and was pleasantly surprised with the entire meal being served on disposable foam tableware. They explained that if they used real tableware, it would cost more … except it already did cost more than the other local carry-out places. (Obviously, the cost of running dishes through their dishwasher is higher than the cost of that disposable tableware.)
So basically, the reason to serve meals on real tableware is that the prices would increase to what they are already charging. (Typically, if there is a price difference, the carry-out costs more.)
After trying to eat my meal with a fork that basically folded under the food as I was trying to eat it, I decided I could either ask for chopsticks or take it home and transfer it to actual tableware and use an actual fork to enjoy my food.
They obviously knew the problem because they didn’t announce their “carry-out dine-in” policy until they served the food. Still, I can get better carry-out at a lower price at Goody’s or any of a half dozen other places.
It’s sad, because South China had been one of the gems of Mt. Vernon Ave.
WE GOT FOOD POISONING!! Do not, I repeat, do not eat here! My wife and I had horrible food poisoning eating this garbage. Stay clear of this place!
Very fast service/delivery and the food is good. I usually get shrimp w broccoli and the taste is consistent.
South China consistently provides very good food. The Lo Mein noodles and fried rice are flavorful. Mobile ordering is very simple for take out.
Best Chinese Food in the area. Always on point with the core favorites. Dine in, carry out or delivery: consistency at all.
I’ve been ordering from this place for probably 30 years. This is my go to for Chinese food. They deliver really fast which is great
I saw the favorable reviews so I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Unfortunately my experience was not good. I got takeout and ordered the general tso chicken lunch with fried rice. I was expecting just Americanized Chinese food but this came below other general tso’s that I’ve had at other places. The chicken and rice were both bland no flavor no spice. I ended up adding some store bought sauces I had at home to both the chicken and rice to make it more enjoyable. I might give this place a second try sometime but my first visit was a disappointment. Giving two stars because it does seem like an affordable place.
